Garden Hills Real Estate

Another fine example of middle-to-upper-class Atlanta living has to be the residential community of Garden Hills. This close-knit community of stately, single-family homes and luxury apartment complexes best reflect the “country club community” feeling for which it was created.

Many of the homes of Garden Hills, which can often exceed $1 million (median price is approximately $700,000), are Georgian, Tudor, Spanish Revival and Colonial Revival in design, and most of them exhibit a high degree of craftsmanship and detail which echo the early 20th century period during which they were constructed.

Located just five miles north of Atlanta’s central business district, Garden Hills, in addition to single-family homes, includes a church, an historical, commercial area, two schools and several businesses. It is located between Peachtree and Piedmont Roads, bordered on the north by Pharr Road and on the south by East Wesley Road.

Garden Hills Historic District and Luxury Homes

First developed in 1925 as a country club community, Garden Hills is located just each of Peachtree, in Buckhead. The large, period homes are surrounded by lush parks, beautifully landscaped properties and perfectly manicured traffic islands. It is conveniently located close to shopping, transportation, schools and churches. The oldest streets in the neighborhood were named as historic districts in 1987.

The Sunnybrook Park, the Alexander Park and Frankie Lane Park, which includes baseball fields, tennis courts and picnic areas, are all located in Garden Hills.

Garden Hills Homes

Garden Hills was developed in 1925 by Phillips Campbell McDuffie, a prominent lawyer from Atlanta. He formed the Garden Hills Corporation, a real estate firm, along with a vision for a country club community with a pool and community center as its centerpiece.

McDuffie divided the neighborhood into three sections, which included a centrally located Country Club section, the original Peachtree section and the Brentwood section.

Nestled in the middle of the neighborhood, the Garden Hills Pool still remains the heart of the neighborhood, as well as a gathering place for the community. The swimming pool also features a rustic clubhouse, complete with a large, back porch and a fireplace. A playground and a soccer field are also located at the Garden Hills Pool.

Although the clubhouse was badly damaged in a fire in 1999, most of it was rebuilt to recapture the look and feel of the original building.

Garden Hills is served by an excellent school system which includes Garden Hills Elementary, Sutton Middle School and North Atlanta High.
