Chastain Park, which was named for former Fulton County Commissioner Troy G. Chastain, was acquired in the early 1900s by Fulton County.

Troy G. Chastain was a major force in the development of many of the parks in Atlanta, especially in North Fulton Park. Chastain Park was officially renamed after Troy G. Chastain in 1946 as a tribute to his vision.

The Chastain Park Conservancy was formed in 2003 with a vision “To Restore, Enhance, Maintain and Preserve Chastain Park.”

Chastain Park Schools

Chastain Park is served by several, desirable school districts, which include Sarah Smith and Jackson and Heards Ferry.

Chastain Park is the largest – and arguably the most popular – park in Atlanta. Some of the amenities found throughout Chastain Park include walking and biking trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, a golf course, a swimming pool, a private horse park and a wildly popular amphitheatre.

The Chastain Park Amphitheatre, which was constructed in 1938 (and enjoyed a $2.3 million renovation in 2004), has served as Atlanta’s premier entertainment venue. In fact, it is annually selected as Atlanta’s favorite concert experience. This stone outdoor amphitheatre holds 6,000 people and hosts concerts in the spring and summer.

The Chastain Park Amphitheatre is now owned by the city of Atlanta and is home to some of the biggest names in music, including the Atlanta Symphony, which holds an annual summer concert series there.

The Chastain Horse Park, a private, 13-acre equestrian center within Chastain Park which was first built in 1939, offers riding lessons, boarding for horses, a clubhouse, a banquet room and a therapeutic riding program.
