Buckhead Luxury Real Estate

Prestigious families, established companies and spectacular real estate have earned Buckhead the nickname of “Beverly Hills of the South.”

In fact, it is home to some of the most sought-after real estate in Atlanta. The average price for a home in Buckhead is $750,000, thus earning the title of most expensive real estate in Georgia.

Located in the uptown district of Atlanta, Buckhead comprises about one-fifth of the city and is located northwest of Interstate 85 and northeast of Interstate 75. There are currently about 100,000 residents in Buckhead.

Buckhead Luxury Homes and Real Estate

Buckhead was originally settled by Native Americans, yet was seized by the federal government in 1821. Settlers established the community known as Buck’s Head in 1838, with Henry Irby’s general store and tavern taking center stage as a stopping place for travelers.

The community of Buckhead remained lightly populated throughout much of the 20th century, serving as a wealthy suburb of Atlanta. The large estates in Buckhead were home to many, wealthy Atlantans of that time.

Buckhead Real Estate Today

Today, Buckhead is a meeting place for international business and Southern society. Forbes Magazine ranked Buckhead as the ninth wealthiest zip code in the nation, with household incomes there topping $341,000 per year.

Robb Report Magazine has repeatedly ranked Buckhead as one of the nation’s “Top Ten Affluent Communities” for its spectacular mansions, world class shopping and fine dining.

The internationally renowned shopping district in this area features more than 1,400 retail units and over $1 billion in revenue each year. The primary shopping districts include Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza. These sister malls house the highest concentration of high-end stores in the nation.

The Streets of Buckhead

Another new development is underway, as well, called The Streets of Buckhead. This development will bring additional high-end boutiques to the area, as well as the five-star St. Regis Hotel Atlanta, multi-million dollar condominiums and office space. Developers eventually hope to turn Peachtree Road into a large shopping and entertainment venue, with Lenox Square and Phipps Plaza to the north and the Streets of Buckhead to the south.

Buckhead is home to the Governor’s Mansion, as well as upscale, five-star restaurants, including Seegers and the The Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton Buckhead.

Although single-family homes remain throughout much of Buckhead, the Peachtree Road corridor has introduced an impressive array of high-rise construction, including Tower Place, Park Place, Atlanta Plaza, Park Avenue Condominiums, Sovereign and Mansion on Peachtree, just to name a few. In fact, there are currently over 50 high-rise buildings in Buckhead.

Buckhead Schools

Buckhead is served by the Atlanta Public Schools, which include E. Rivers Elementary School, Garden Hills Elementary School, Morris Brandon Elementary School, Sarah Rawson Smith Elementary School, Warren T. Jackson Elementary School, Sutton Middle School and North Atlanta High School.
