Clear Wireless AtlantaAs of today, metro Atlanta has become America's largest wireless hotspot, that's 1200 square miles of seamless internet access at speeds every bit as fast as DSL.

Thanks to a company called Clear, who has been working on the installation for over two years, you can now have high speed internet access in virtually any location around Atlanta.

It does come at a price, starting at $10 a day to $50 a month. Since I've been having connection problems with the aircard on my laptop, I decided to try the one day plan just as a comparison. So far, no issues and the speed is much faster than what I normally get on my 3G card. Of course, I've only been trying it now for less than a day and stayed in the northern suburbs of Atlanta, but everywhere that I've been I have had full access to the internet and to my email.

You can visit Clear's website for more details and for a coverage area map.

This is reminiscent of the mid eighties and the growth of cellular service, maybe one day wireless internet service will be as available as wireless phone service is today.

That is great. I work at drug rehab and we just switched to the wireless network. It is so much better and faster.

Wow, that is so exciting! I live in metro Atlanta and have seen all of the recent advertisements on the TV/Radio.

Yea!!! Clear. i hope they will be moving to other cites and be as successful across the US as they are in Atlanta.

Wow! That is very interesting. As someone who depends on being "wired" on a regular basis, I would like to see this happen in my area!

The new system sounds great. I just wish that traffic in Atlanta could move so quickly. On our last trip through Atlanta, it took well over an hour to get around the city on the loop.

I can't wait for the day when I can walk anywhere in San Diego and my laptop will be readily connected to the internet!

That's really good news. I hope it makes its way to Austin real soon.

This one is new to me. I have been using UVerse for a short while now and really like it.

Atlanta along with Austin have always seemed to lead the way for the southern U.S. We have a vacation home in Galveston and the wireless there is so messed up from the last hurricane that I had to go outside the city library to find it.

Thats pretty cool. I have been paying for aircard but at $50 this would be cheaper. Also the aircard have some connectivity issues.

I wish they would come to Las Vegas. I pay just a few dollars less than that right now for my home service. So if the connections and speed is good, I would just switch over and have internet everywhere in town.

We have been working for years to have this available in my immdiate neighborhood in Austin. The city talked about having this available YEARS ago, but it seems to be 'backburnered" for now. I can't wait for us to step into the future and have city wide interenet!

You'll never guess what I just got in the mail....a solicitation from Clear to switch my internet service!

I've been holding off on an air card so far. Too expensive. But every time I'm out somewhere waiting for something (kids, doctors, you name it) I wish I had access to the internet. By the time I cave, we'll probably have reliable service out here in Southern California.

Water damage

That sounds great - I'm often driving around in my car and have the need to connect to the internet. My wife is a marketer and when she meets someone who would be a great lead has to scribble it down on a piece of paper and enter it into her computer when she gets home. This would take care of all of that. How is the security of the system though?

Moraira Property

You are light years ahead of us here in Spain. Broadband is available but can be patchy and slow. The major cities such Madrid and Barcelona have better service but nothing like you are describing. Very jealous!!
